Lazy Sunday Routine

Lazy Sunday Routine

Sometimes you just need a day aside for yourself, a self care kind of day. Especially at this time of the year when school and university has started and stress levels begin to rise. A day for you, to the disbelief of some is healthy and very much necessary. Whether it’s once a month or once a week it’s important for one to take care of their inner self, their skin and their body. So whether it’s this Sunday or not, squeeze a ‘you’ day into the calendar. Here’s my routine for a Lazy Sunday

Starting the Day

So I like to start my Lazy Sunday the night before, by having a decent night’s sleep and waking up at a reasonable time. It’s said that the average person should have around 9 and a half hour’s sleep to not oversleep or under sleep. So I will usually wake up around 10 so I still have the whole day ahead of me. The first thing I do when I get out of bed is pour myself a glass of water, to start my metabolism for the day. This will rehydrate your dehydrated body, and flush out toxins. Then I will make myself a cup of coffee to wake me up and have breakfast along with it. It’s been shown that having a high protein breakfast has helped woman stay fuller for longer, avoiding overeating. I like to have a bowl of yogurt and granola. It's healthy, high in protein and a tasty healthy treat for the morning. If I'm not that hungry I might make myself a green machine smoothie. A perfect way to start the morning is curling up on the couch with a book, breakfast and coffee.

TV & Exercise

Studies have shown that exercise in the morning helps you sleep better at night. A morning workout is a good idea to get you up and ready. Don’t know what to do? Pilates is a great way to start. YouTube offers a number of different videos for different parts of the body that you may want to target. After Pilates, I find that the easiest way to wind down after a workout is spending some time watching your favourite TV show. After some rest I like to go for a run. Running is a great idea to tune away and listen to some music as well as get some outdoor time even on your rest day.

Lunch & Skincare
So for lunch, my choice for today is Banoffee pancakes. I posted my recipe here if anyone wants to make them: http://lazysundaygirl.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/quick-easy-to-make-healthy-banoffee.html .Before eating my pancakes, I will apply a face mask. My personal favourite is the chocolate orange face mask, one of Superdrug’s own; they are inexpensive and high quality at the same time and this particular one smells delicious. I’ll apply my face mask and keep it on while I eat my pancakes. A good thing to do in this time is having some phone time. Check your social media and talk to your friends, but try and minimise your phone use to this part of the day only so not to get too technology attached.

Shower & Eyebrows & Chill
Before I have a shower I’ll pluck my eyebrows myself. Then I will go for a shower. I’ll be posting a blog in the near future of what products I use. After my shower to relax I like to make myself a cup of green tea. Green tea is incredibly beneficial; it is full of antioxidants which have been proven to slow cell damage. Lighting a candle and drinking tea is a great way to wind down. I like to then moisturise my full body. My current moisturiser of choice is the Zoella one from the Tutti Fruitti Collection. I’d also strongly recommend meditating, even if just for 2 minutes. Meditation helps one concentrate on within, which helps eliminate stress brought on by the week. I’d recommend the app Headspace for this; it’s free and perfect for having some time to yourself.

Manicure & Wind Down
I like to paint my nails while again I watch a show I know and love, it’s a good way to wind down and be ready for the week ahead. Now you’re ready for whatever the week throws at you!
Some tips for making this Lazy Sunday even better are:
  • Put your phone on do not disturb to enjoy some social media free time. Social media tends to make us more uptight and anxious, so get it away at least for some time!
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day to continue flushing out toxins. Water is just too good for you!
  • Listen to your favourite music throughout the day, which will only make you feel better!

Quick & Easy to Make Healthy Banoffee Pancakes

Quick & Easy Banoffee Pancakes

So this recipe is an alternative to those unhealthy pancakes we all know and love. These pancakes are made with oats, instead of flour and sugar, which contribute to them being such a guilty pleasure. Not only are they healthy but with the blend of banana and honey you get the sweet taste of Banoffee, one of my personal favourites, a guilty pleasure you can love.

Ingredients
2 eggs
2 bananas
5+ tablespoons of oats
Sprinkle of cinnamon
Squirt of honey

Makes 10

Method
1 First of all pre-heat the oven to 200 Degrees Celsius (Gas Mark 6), so when you want to use it it's already toasty, then place some baking paper on a baking tray so the mixture doesn't stick and become impossible to clean. Then I'd use a measuring jug to mix my ingredients in. Get out a fork and a spoon and that's pretty much all the equipment you’re going to need.
2 Cut up 2 bananas and put them in the jug, then mash them up with the fork until they are as close to a liquid as can be, don't worry if they are still lumpy because they are easier to mix once you add the eggs.
3 Add in the 2 eggs and stir until the banana is completely mashed to avoid lumps, once the mixture is pure silky then it's time for the oats.
4 The thickness of your pancakes depends on the amount of oats you put in. I'd recommend no less than 5 tablespoon fills so that when placed on the baking tray they don't run too much. Pour the oats onto the spoon over the jug so any excess goes in the jug anyway. Then mix. Then you can add in your honey and cinnamon which is of course optional.
5 Use a spoon to put dollops of the mixture on the baking tray, not too much is needed because they will rise. They may stick together but don't worry because when you flip them over you can separate them. Then place them in the oven.
6 I usually take my pancakes out after 10 minutes, or you could wait until they look golden brown and take them out, as they are still pancakes you want to flip them over and put them back in, for about 5 minutes until lightly golden on the other side.
7 Now you've taken your pancakes out of the oven you can decorate them in any way you choose whether it's putting whipped cream on the top with a sprinkle of honey or putting a spoonful of ice cream with them.
